CUL does not require an account and does not use advertising, analytics, tracking or cloud gallery storage.
Who operates CUL
CUL is operated by CUL Studio in New South Wales, Australia. Privacy enquiries can be sent to hello@culstudio.com.
Australian privacy framework
We manage personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles where they apply. We also follow these principles as a matter of good practice when an exemption applies. NSW privacy legislation may apply to particular information or activities in limited circumstances.
Information handled by the apps
CUL handles only the content and settings needed to provide its features:
- photographs and filenames that you deliberately select for import;
- gallery names, keep/reject decisions and culling progress;
- app appearance, haptic and onboarding preferences;
- recovery metadata, including gallery name, import date, filenames and selection state, when recovery is available.
This information is stored locally on your device. Recovery metadata does not retain deleted gallery images.
Camera, Photos and Files permissions
Camera access is used only to scan a CUL Helper QR code. Photo Library and Files access is used only when you choose content to import. CUL does not continuously monitor these sources and does not upload selected photographs to CUL Studio.
CUL Helper and local transfers
CUL Helper reads JPEG files you select, creates reduced copies and a manifest on your Mac, and temporarily makes that prepared gallery available on your local network. The QR code contains an unguessable, expiring transfer address. A transfer session expires after one hour or when the helper session ends. CUL Studio does not receive the photographs or manifest.
Exports and sharing
When you copy filenames or export a text or CSV file, the output remains under your control. If you use the system share sheet, the service or person you select receives the exported file under their own privacy terms.
Website information
When you visit this website, hosting and network providers may process limited technical request information such as IP address, browser type, requested page and security logs to deliver and protect the site. CUL Studio does not use this site for behavioural advertising or cross-site tracking.
Service providers and overseas processing
Apple, website-hosting, email and network providers may process limited technical or support information on our behalf. Some providers may store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States or other countries where they operate. Their handling of information is governed by their own privacy terms and applicable law.
Retention and deletion
Gallery images, decisions and settings remain on your device until you delete the gallery, clear recovery data, remove the app or erase its data. Prepared helper galleries remain on your Mac until you remove them. You can revoke Camera or Photo Library access in iOS Settings at any time.
Because CUL currently has no user accounts or server-side gallery database, CUL Studio generally has no personal gallery data to retrieve or delete. For a privacy request concerning information you have directly supplied to support, email hello@culstudio.com.
Access, correction and complaints
You may ask to access or correct personal information that CUL Studio holds about you, or make a privacy complaint, by emailing hello@culstudio.com. We will acknowledge and respond within a reasonable period. If you are not satisfied with our response and the Australian Privacy Act applies, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Children
CUL is a general photography utility and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Security
CUL limits gallery handling to local device storage and local-network transfer. No method of storage or transmission can be guaranteed completely secure, so keep your devices and local network protected.
Changes
We may update this policy when CUL’s features or legal obligations change. The effective date above will be revised, and material changes will be communicated through the app or website where appropriate.
